Madhav Gadgil is a trailblazing Indian ecologist whose work in conservation and environmental governance has had a global impact. By integrating ecological science with community efforts, he revolutionized the management of sustainable resources. A Harvard-trained expert in mathematical ecology, Gadgil’s early work is still hugely influential. His research influenced India’s National Biodiversity Act and he has served on advisory panels for the United Nations, helping advance policies that bridge human development with environmental protection.
